Parquet Flooring

Parquet Repair & Restoration in Singapore

When parquet flooring is damaged, loose or deteriorated, repair and restoration addresses the affected areas and, where appropriate, brings the floor back to a usable, presentable condition.

Pro Surface Works assesses damaged parquet floors across Singapore before recommending an appropriate repair or restoration approach.

What Is Parquet Repair & Restoration?

  • Assessing the damage present in an existing parquet floor
  • Repairing damaged areas
  • Restoring deteriorated sections where appropriate
  • Improving the floor's usable condition and appearance

Common Parquet Flooring Problems We Assess

  • Damaged parquet blocks — individual pieces that are cracked, chipped or broken
  • Loose parquet pieces — sections that have come away from the subfloor
  • Missing sections — gaps where parquet pieces are absent
  • Cracks or splits — in individual pieces or across sections
  • Surface deterioration — general breakdown of the wood or finish
  • Localised damage — problems confined to specific areas of the floor
  • Uneven or deteriorated areas — sections that stand out from the rest of the floor

Not every type of parquet damage can be repaired in the same way, which is why each floor is assessed individually.

When Should You Repair or Restore Parquet Flooring?

  • Individual blocks are damaged
  • Sections have become loose
  • The floor has localised deterioration
  • Surface damage goes beyond what polishing can address
  • The existing parquet has significant wear in specific areas
  • Certain areas require targeted intervention

Polishing may be sufficient for lighter surface wear, while more extensive damage may require repair or restoration. See Parquet Floor Polishing for the lighter treatment.

Parquet Repair, Polishing or Sanding: Which Is Needed?

Polishing

For a dull appearance, loss of shine, or lighter surface wear.

Repair & Restoration

For damaged, loose or missing parquet, localised deterioration, or more significant defects.

Sanding & Varnishing

For surface preparation, removal or refinement of the existing finish, and renewing the finish where appropriate.

See Parquet Floor Polishing or Parquet Floor Sanding & Varnishing if either of those better matches your floor's condition.

What Parts of a Parquet Floor Can Be Repaired?

  • Individual parquet pieces
  • Localised damaged sections
  • Loose areas
  • Missing sections
  • Other repairable components identified during assessment

What can actually be repaired depends on the specific floor, which is why an assessment comes before any repair plan.

Our Parquet Repair & Restoration Process

1. Condition Assessment

The damage and surrounding floor are assessed.

2. Problem Identification

The type and extent of the damage are determined.

3. Repair Planning

Whether the damage is repairable, and what intervention is needed, is determined.

4. Repair / Restoration

The appropriate repair work is carried out.

5. Surface Finishing Where Required

An appropriate finishing treatment is applied after repair, where applicable.

6. Final Inspection

The repaired area and the surrounding floor are inspected.

Can All Parquet Damage Be Repaired?

No, not all parquet damage is repairable in the same way. The result depends on:

  • The severity of the damage
  • The extent of the deterioration
  • The condition of the surrounding parquet
  • The condition of the subfloor
  • Whether matching replacement material is available
  • Any moisture or underlying issues present

Matching Existing Parquet During Repairs

  • The existing pattern
  • The wood type
  • Colour
  • Size
  • Finish
  • Age-related appearance differences

On an older floor, a replacement piece may not be perfectly identical to the surrounding parquet, particularly where the existing floor has aged or faded unevenly. This is discussed as part of the assessment.

Parquet Damage Caused by Moisture

Where parquet damage is related to moisture, identifying the source is an important part of the assessment. Replacing the damaged wood alone may not resolve the underlying issue, and damage can recur if the source is not addressed.

Pro Surface Works does not provide waterproofing or plumbing repair services. Where a moisture source needs to be addressed, this would need to be handled separately.

Repair or Replace the Parquet Floor?

Repair may be considered when:

  • The damage is localised
  • The majority of the floor remains usable
  • Matching replacement material is available

More extensive work may be needed when:

  • Damage is widespread
  • Underlying problems exist
  • Large sections are severely deteriorated

There is no universal rule here. Where more extensive work is needed, see Parquet Flooring Installation.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Can damaged parquet flooring be repaired?

In many cases, yes, but this depends on the severity and type of damage, along with the condition of the surrounding floor. An assessment confirms what is possible.

When should parquet be repaired instead of polished?

When there is physical damage such as loose, missing or cracked pieces, rather than just dullness or loss of shine. See Parquet Floor Polishing for lighter surface wear.

Can individual parquet pieces be replaced?

Yes, individual pieces can often be replaced, though matching the existing pattern, wood type and appearance depends on the specific floor.

Can water-damaged parquet be restored?

This depends on the extent of the damage and whether the moisture source has been identified and addressed. Replacing damaged wood alone may not resolve an ongoing moisture issue.

Is it better to repair parquet or replace the entire floor?

This depends on how widespread the damage is and whether matching replacement material is available. There is no single answer that applies to every floor.

How long does parquet floor repair take?

This depends on the extent of the damage and the area involved, and is confirmed after the assessment.
